Re: Secrecy: How Much Is Too Much?

Greetings, EA Kelley..... I have been following the changes proposed for your GL and, among other things, the "open-ness" being called for in Lodge practices may well prove to be problematic. IMHO, it is going to be difficult to lead new Brothers toward the inner mysteries of this Craft without having the outer mysteries of Lodge ritual and practice to use as models and guides. There is a point to maintaining secrets which has little to do with social or political exclusion and much to do with the development of our interior "landscape". Best of luck to all the Brothers in PA.....

Aye,
I think there will be some problems down the road as well, You have stated my thoughts much more eloquently than I did. Tact has never been one of my strong points however the older I get the more I try to temper my thought and feelings. While the RWGM is the head of the craft, that does not mean I have to agree with him though I will follow his rulings.
And if all the mystery’s are exposed what reason then is there to travel and find the answers. Much akin to the young lady, a young man takes out for the first time, it’s what you don’t see and don’t know that is the allure the excitement. Perhaps a poor analogy, but you get the idea. Will I pass along the secrets that I have gleaned from the Brother hood ,no most likely not at least not to one that is not a Brother. It is true that the Brother hood must change with the times to survive, but to lay bare the bones of the craft, one might as well join the Moose or Elks.
For IMHO it becomes nothing more that a bunch of people with no history or heraldry and no future.
Peace
Skeets

Not unlike any elected leader.

Each new leader wants to leave his mark. We may agree with him, we may not. We may not like him or respect him as a person, but we will always respect his position and his office.
